Steve Nash Bio, Wife, Divorce, Kids, Girlfriend, Height, Net worth

Steve Nash is a South African-born Canadian retired professional basketball player. An eight-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Award winner, the athlete has made his mark in Canada and has the basketball world at his feet.

Regarded as one of the greatest guardians in NBA history, Nash, who has played basketball since high school, made a successful journey from gym basketball to world pro basketball with the Phoenix Suns of the NBA.

Stephen John Nash was born on February 7, 1974, in Johannesburg, South Africa to Jean and John Nash. Steve’s father John was an English man who played professional football while his Welsh mother was a sports fan. John and Jean Nash raised exceptional athletes as Steve’s younger brother Martin pursued a successful career in professional football, and his sister Joann was also a standout collegiate football player.

Steve’s family had a world-traveling lifestyle. When he was only 18 months old they moved first to Regina, Saskatchewan, then to Vancouver but later settled in Victoria, British Columbia. Steve followed in his father’s footsteps and played football and ice hockey as a child. After discovering basketball in eighth grade and playing for the first time in an organized league, he became passionate about basketball. Steve’s dreams were now geared towards becoming an accomplished professional athlete and an NBA star, but his slim frame made that goal seem quite unrealistic.

Steve Nash attended Mount Douglas Secondary School in Saanich, British Columbia but later transferred to a private boarding school, St. Michaels University School, where he took part in basketball, soccer and rugby. As a junior at St. Michaels, he was named British Columbia’s Most Valuable Player and led his school team to victory at the AAA British Columbia Provincial Championship in his senior year.

He played college basketball for Santa Clara University, where he received a scholarship for the 1992-93 season and became the first freshman to be named the “Most Valuable Player” after the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship tournament. After earning a degree in sociology and serving as Santa Clara’s top assistant, Steve was selected by the Phoenix Suns along with Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson to the first round of the 1996 NBA draft. This was the beginning of his professional career.

career success

He was with the Phoenix Suns two years prior to joining the Dallas Mavericks. The 6ft 3in athlete had a brilliant performance with the Mavericks and established himself as one of the best point guards in the NBA. However, he soon became a free agent after the 2003-04 season and returned to the Phoenix Suns for the 2004-05 season.

In 2006, Nash was named the ninth greatest point guard of all time by ESPN. He has performed outstandingly for the Suns, earning them their highest-scoring team in the 2009-10 season. While leading the most dynamic offenses with both the Suns and Underdogs throughout the 2000s, Nash led his teams to success, reaching four Western Conference Finals. In 2005 and 2006, Steve Nash was named the League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012, but his time there was marred by injuries. However, he led his side to a treble victory despite suffering a leg injury in the second game of the 2012/13 season.

Nash retired from professional basketball in March 2015. One of the top players in NBA league history, Steve Nash led the league in assists and free throw percentage at various points in his career. After retirement, he became a part-time counsel for the Golden State Warriors and was selected for induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

charity, philanthropy

Though an 8-time NBA All-Star pick, 3-time Nash is the NBA’s first team pick and a two-time league MVP. Amazingly, he’s a philanthropist who loathes the star. He is the founder of the Steve Nash Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on children’s health and education services in Arizona, British Columbia and around the world. Nash also established the Jim Jennings Memorial Endowment Fund at SCU. In addition, the basketball star is involved in a non-profit organization called “GuluWalk”, which collects donations for children in northern Uganda affected by the war.

Steve Nash’s philanthropic works have earned him several awards from the court, including the Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, an honorary doctorate from the University of Victoria and the NBA’s Outstanding Community Service Award.

Steve Nash Net Worth (Income and Earnings)

An NBA player and multiple winner of the Most Valuable Player title, Nash was one of the most accomplished basketball players of his time. His salary steadily increased, earning over $8 million a year. In addition to owning a chain of fitness facilities (the Steve Nash Sports Clubs), Steve made a fortune in advertising throughout his career, including a commercial deal with sports company Nike, Dove Men and Sprint. Steve Nash has an estimated net worth of $95 million.

wife, divorce, children, girlfriend

Steve Nash was formerly married to AlejandraAmarilla. The union, which officially began in 2005, produced three children, twin daughters, Lola and Bella, born in 2004 and a son, Matteo Joel, born in 2010. However, Nash surprised his fans and raised eyebrows after sharing his announced separation from his five-year-old wife just one day after the birth of their son. The couple have kept their fans on the receiving end as the full reason for their divorce is revealed.

In September 2016, Nash, who has since moved, married Lilla Frederick, a former Pepperdine volleyball player in Manhattan Beach. The couple welcomed a son, Luca Sun Nash, in July 2017.

Height

As previously mentioned, the Canadian former basketball player stands at a height of 1.91 m. Known for his high basketball IQ and excellent view of the court, Nash possessed good height, average strength and incredible balance and body control, which made him one of the best point guards in history.
